Kaiyi Jiang Named Finalist for the Dongrun-Yao Science Award

On September 14, 2016, The King’s Academy chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) held its first meeting of the 2016-17 school year. The guest speaker for the September meeting was The King’s Academy’s very own NHS president, Kaiyi Jiang. Kaiyi was appointed president because he is the senior NHS member with the highest GPA. However, this is not why he was chosen to be the inaugural speaker for the 2016-2017 school year. Kaiyi was chosen because of the significant contributions he is making in the field of science.

Following Kaiyi’s return to TKA this fall, he submitted original research he had completed over the summer to be considered for the  Dongrun-Yao Science Award. This competition, based in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, encourages innovative scientific research by high school and middle school students. Kaiyi was able to show evidence of  reversing the chemotherapeutic resistance in the breast cancer cell line MCF7R. He was selected as a semi-finalists to present his research to the Dongrun – Yao Science Award committee in Beijing on October 29, 2016. Kaiyi made it past the semi-finalist round and traveled back to China to present again in December where he was named a finalist in the competition.

Kaiyi exemplifies the core values of the National Honor Society. The King’s Academy faculty, staff and administration are excited and proud of the work Kaiyi is continuing to do to better the world we live in. We wish him all the luck as he advances further along in his research and educational endeavors.
