The valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating class of 2017 were announced in chapel on Friday February 10th. The valedictorian is Kaiyi Jiang and the salutatorian is Nitis (Frank) Pornsopin.
Kaiyi Jiang is from Dalian, China. He enrolled at TKA the second semester of his freshman year. During his tenure at TKA he has taken 10 honors courses, eight AP courses and a dual enrollment course through The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Kaiyi has been committed to community service during his high school career earning approximately 388 community service hours. His community service varies greatly from helping in East Tennessee and Kentucky to working with Seeing Eye dogs in China. He started the first ever Environmental Awareness and Action club at TKA. Kaiyi is also the president of TKA’s National Honor Society. Kaiyi has also been involved in athletics while at TKA. He has been a member of the swim team and has participated in water polo.
Frank Pornsopin is from Nakornratchasima, Thailand. He enrolled at TKA the beginning of his 6th grade year making him one of TKA’s youngest international boarders ever. Frank has taken 13 honors courses and four AP courses during his high school career at TKA. Frank has also been committed to community service while at TKA. In Thailand, he volunteered at a home for disabled children, provided food and school uniforms for less fortunate students, and provided food for monks in the temple. He also volunteered as a greeter at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Frank is a member of our varsity tennis team as well.
Both Kaiyi and Frank earned all As during high school and will graduate in May earning a highest honors diploma. Both students have applied to some very prestigious universities and colleges and will be notified of acceptance decisions sometime in late March or early April.
