COURAGE
LeRoy Beam, Principal
August 20, 2012
Much of what we teach our children falls in the category of teaching them about responsibility. That’s important, but being responsible isn’t the key to greatness, it’s just the threshold. Edmond Burke said, “The timid soul never attains greatness. He is doomed to a life of cautious wading in the shallows of accomplishment.”
Let’s teach our children to be courageous. Let’s encourage them to stand up for what is right. Let’s help them realize that integrity is more important than popularity. Those things won’t prepare them for SAT’s, ACT’s and Terra Nova 3, but that’s not our most important job. Our most important job is to prepare them for life.
“Courage is the most important of all virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically but nothing consistently without courage.” – Maya Angelou
