TKA Student Ensemble Performs at Sam Houston Schoolhouse

This past Sunday afternoon, a student ensemble of third through sixth graders highlighted the program at the Sam Houston Schoolhouse honoring the life of Sam Houston, governor of the great state of Texas who spent his childhood years in Maryville, Tennessee. Fourteen TKA students, led by music teachers Shelly Benson and Julie Littleton, sang three selections acknowledging different chapters in the life of Sam Houston: “The Yellow Rose of Texas”, “In My Tennessee Mountain Home”, and “Oh, I Love America”. After their songs, guests learned more about the life and times of Sam Houston from Lynn Fox, a local reenactor with Tennesseans for Living History. Local craftsmen also set up booths during the celebration.
