TKA junior Niamh Schumacher crossed the finish line first in 18:53.97 at the Div II-A cross country meet in November. “A dream come true for Niamh,” states mother Liz Schumacher. All in all, this was a great accomplishment for Niamh who was running only her third cross-country season! This season Niamh ran eight races leading up to regional winning five of the eight.
In addition to Niamh’s success in the state of Tennessee, she also placed fourth in Alabama at the Jesse Owens Classic where she raced against over 200 runners from everywhere in the South. From there, Niamh went on to win regionals for Div II-A with her closest competitor finishing 14 seconds behind her! Niamh ended the cross-country season finishing 16th in the All South Regional Foot Locker Championships in Charlotte, NC racing against the best elite runners from all over the South.
Niamh is now training for indoor track season and plans to compete at ETSU and Vanderbilt. Congratulations, Niamh! Your TKA family couldn’t be more proud of your hard work, dedication, and character!
