Week One of the 2016-2017 school year is almost in the books! We hope that all of our students have had a great first week and are adjusting to their schedules.
A FEW REMINDERS…
All drivers on campus should observe a 15 mph speed limit. For the safety of our students, please obey posted road signs. Also, to ensure that morning drop-off goes smoothly, no vehicles should be parked in front of the Ogle Building before 8:15 a.m. If you want to park and walk your student into the building, you must park the large gravel lot between the soccer field and the Ogle Building. The other gravel lot (behind the Anderson Building) is designated for Staff Parking only. Student drivers should park behind the cafeteria, in front of the Tibbetts Building, or at Stokely Gymnasium. Also, student drivers MUST register their vehicles with the high school office via the 3-in-1 Contract.
REMAINING QUESTIONS?
Perhaps you missed orientation or some questions have popped up during the first week. Please feel free to contact the office or reply to this email. We’re here to help.
PARENT ALERT – TKA’s EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
TKA uses RenWeb’s Parent Alert program to notify students, parents, and staff in the event of inclement weather or an emergency. A test message was sent last Saturday morning (August 8) prior to orientation. If you did not receive a text alert, please email Cheryl Weekly at cweekly@thekingsacademy.net. Also, it is recommended that you add the number that the alert comes from to your contacts (TKA Parent Alert) so that you can readily identify any messages from TKA.
THE KING’S WAY – STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND DRESS CODE
As we enter the second week of school, students are expected to be familiar with classroom and behavior expectations as well as the proper dress code. This year’s edition of The King’s Way is posted on RenWeb under the “Announcements” tab. All high school students must turn in their 3-in1 contract (signed by student & parent) by Monday, August 15.
SCRIP
Our Scrip volunteers will be set up in the Ogle Elementary Building on Friday mornings from 7:45-8:15 beginning TOMORROW, August 12. Stop by to learn more about this wonderful program and start saving! Scrip cards will be on sale as well.
SOPHOMORE POOL PARTY
All currently enrolled sophomores are invited to a gathering at the TKA pool tomorrow, August 12 from 3:15 to 5:00. Please see handbook for appropriate swim attire. Hope to see everyone there!

All student athletes must have a current sports physical on file to participate. For more information, email Coach Brian Day, bbday3@yahoo.com.
IT’S VOLLEY-POP TIME!
The volleyball team will take orders beginning Monday, August 15 for Volley-Pops. For $0.50 each your child can send a Blow Pop (lollipop with bubble gum in the center) and a kind message to a special friend, teacher, administrator, or to themselves. If you wish to send one to your child, please send a note to your child’s teacher along with your money.
Teachers will collect the orders beginning on Monday, August 15 and ending on Thursday, August 18. All orders will be delivered on Friday, August 19.
Make someone’s day and support the volley ball team!

Our Parent-Teacher Fellowship will sell Snow Cones for $1.00 every Friday, August 19-September 23 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of Ms. Leena’s house.
AMAZON SMILE HELPS TKA
Every member of the TKA Family who makes purchases via Amazon Smile can help the academy. Please bookmark this link: http://smile.amazon.com/ch/62-0630673 so all eligible shopping will benefit Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy, the parent corporation of The King’s Academy.
A BENCH FOR CAPS UPDATE
For the past two years, academy families and friends have collected plastic lids which have been recycled into benches and picnic tables. You can see the benches and tables in front of Ashe Cafeteria, at the tennis courts, and on the soccer field. If you’ve been saving lids, please feel free to drop them off. Blue collection bins are located in the Tibbetts Building, the Ogle Elementary Building, and in the main hallway of the Anderson Building. For more information on the types of lids that are acceptable, check out the “Community Bench Project” link under the Announcements tab on RenWeb.
