Tell me about TKA’s standardized testing.

Each spring, grades K-8 take the TerraNova tests. Eighth graders take the ACT Explore test each fall. Students in grades nine and ten take the ACT Plan exam. Students in grades eleven and twelve take the ACT and/or SAT. International students take the TOEFL when they make application to universities.

What are the school hours?

Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.

Is care available before and/or after school?

Yes. Care is available from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and from 3:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

When can my child get extra help if needed?

Teachers are available from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. to help the students with their studies.

How diverse is the student population?

Students from an average of 15 different countries attend TKA every year.

Will my child be tested when applying for admission to TKA?

Students in grades 6-11 will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) as part of the application process. International students who have taken TOEFL or TOEFL Jr. must submit these scores with their application.

Does TKA offer athletic programs?

The King’s Academy is a Christian school. Does a student have to be a Christian to attend?

No. TKA serves students of all faiths from all over the globe. However, subject matter in all classes is taught from a biblical perspective. All students are required to take Bible class and attend chapel every Friday. Students who are not Christians are encouraged to embrace Christianity while they are a part of the TKA family.

Which airport do boarding students fly into and does school staff pick them up?

Fly into McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville, TN. The airport is located 20 miles from The King’s Academy. Resident life staff will pick up the student and drive him/her to The King’s Academy campus.
