Grade Policy (Middle & Upper School)
Grades are to be considered to be very important in the lives of TKA students. Only students who have the ability to succeed are admitted. Therefore, all students are expected to succeed. Effort is made to encourage students and motivate them to academic excellence.
The academic year is divided into two halves, or semesters. Each semester is divided into two grading periods of approximately nine weeks each.
A student’s performance on homework, class work, quizzes, special reports, projects, classroom participation and examinations may be included in the determination of the student’s grade in each class.
Most course work completed at TKA will be graded by the teacher using a scale of 0 to 100. These numbers correspond to the following letter grades:
A = 93-100
B = 85-92
C = 75-84
D = 70-74
F = 0-69
P = Passing (70-100)
N = Not For Credit
Teachers have the option of adapting the scale to meet a particular need, provided the upper school director or elementary/middle school principal approves the revision and it is communicated clearly to the students.
