“The King’s Academy opened my view to the world and spiritually gave me a sense of belonging. It is, and will continue to be, an ideal choice for students from the United States and other parts of the world.”

International students are an integral part of The King’s Academy family. They help to create a culturally diverse environment on the academy campus. International students study side-by-side with American students and experience American culture. However, they also experience cultures from all over the world as they make lifelong friendships with students from all over the globe.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Instruction
International students come to The King’s Academy from a wide variety of countries and cultures from around the world. Each of these students bring with them unique customs and traditions. Many of the students will come to the Academy with knowledge of one, two, or even three or more languages. For students who do not speak English as their first language, the Academy ESL Program assists them in reaching their English language goals. TKA’s ESL program offers students opportunities to improve their English conversation, vocabulary, grammar, composition and reading skills. It is important for each student to succeed in the English language as it is the language used for instruction and everyday communication at the Academy.
In addition, the Academy offers a four-week CampUS Orientation Program for all new English second language speaking students. Click here to learn more about CampUS.
The King’s Academy has been privileged to have international boarding students living on campus for over 80 years. TKA faculty and staff understand the needs of international students and work closely with them as they adjust to TKA culture. International students benefit from the academic guidance provided by both the TKA guidance counselor and ESL department. Resident life directors and staff create a loving, structured, family environment for the students and support their personal needs.
Students from an average of 12-17 different countries attend The King’s Academy every year. The King’s Academy students, staff, faculty, and school family are very welcoming to international students. TKA’s family atmosphere makes international students feel like they have a home away from home.
International students currently make up approximately 20% of the high school student population. This provides an excellent opportunity for international students to learn English outside of ESL classes. Students also have a variety of athletics, fine arts, clubs, and student government in which to participate and/or assume leadership roles.
The King’s Academy is located in the southeastern region of the United States.
