At TKA, academics are not just about earning grades. Our Upper School prepares students for college, careers, and a life of service to Christ. Every class is taught through the lens of a biblical worldview, giving students a solid foundation in both faith and knowledge. Teachers mentor students to think critically, communicate clearly, and live faithfully.

Academic Pathways

At The King’s Academy, we strive to prepare our students for success in higher education and beyond. To meet the diverse needs and aspirations of our students, we offer three types of academic courses: College Prep, Honors, and AP/Dual Enrollment.

 

  • Overview:
    Designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation and essential skills for college readiness. Focuses on critical thinking, problem-solving, and foundational knowledge in all subjects.

  • GPA Scale:
    Grades are assigned quality points on a standard 4.0 scale:

    • A = 4.0

    • B = 3.0

    • C = 2.0

    • D = 1.0

    • F = 0.0

 

  • Overview:
    Advanced coursework designed to challenge students with more in-depth material and higher expectations. Ideal for students seeking a rigorous academic experience to strengthen their college applications.

  • Additional GPA Weight:
    Honors courses receive an additional 0.5 point in GPA calculations.

    • Example: An A in an Honors course earns 4.5 points toward the GPA.

  • Overview:
    College-level courses taught at TKA, culminating in an AP Exam.

  • GPA Bonus:
    Students earn an additional 1.0 point if they take the corresponding AP Exam.

    • Example: An A in an AP course earns 5.0 points with the exam.

  • Overview:
    College courses taken in partnership with Johnson University, Walters State University, and Pellissippi State Community College. Students earn both high school and college credit.
  • GPA Bonus:

    Dual Enrollment courses automatically earn an additional 1.0 point toward GPA calculations.

    • Example: An A in a DE course earns 5.0 points.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Upper School academics extend beyond textbooks and tests. Students are encouraged to explore, serve, and lead through experiences that build confidence and character.

JR/Sr BETA

A national honor society that promotes leadership, service, and academic achievement among high school students. Beta Club members participate in service projects and leadership activities that make a difference in the school and local community.

Student Government

Student Government provides a platform for Upper School students to develop leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Officers plan school events, represent the student body, and serve as a voice for their peers.

National honor society

Recognizing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character, NHS encourages students to continue striving for academic achievement while serving others. Members take part in both school-based and community service projects.
